"Although separated by time, Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada - both Italian, both feminists- share striking affinities in terms of their design strategies. Schiaparelli, from the 20's through 50's and Prada from the late 80's to today, have exploited the narrative possibilities of prints, sought out unconventional textiles, played with ideas of good and bad taste, and manipulated scale for surrealistic outcomes. Schiaparelli and Prada; Impossible Conversations compares and contrasts the designers to explore the extraordinary impact of their aesthetics and sensibilities on contemporary notions of fashion."
